Our Same-Sex Dance Classes
Level 1 Beginner's Class
The pace is slow with lots of repetition in the easier dances, such as: Foxtrot, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Tango & Waltz. Of course, the focus will be on having fun and keeping things social too.
The dances covered will change from week to week, to keep it interesting. There’s also some revision from the previous week’s session and lots of opportunity to change partners, so feel free to turn up on your own, as lots of students do.
Dances included:
Foxtrot, Cha Cha Cha, Tango, Salsa, Waltz, Prog. Samba & Prog. Jive.
*Intermediates are also welcome to join in and often participate during beginners, to support the newer students and to practice their technique at a slower pace.
Level 2 Beginner's Class
This is a bridging class to help beginners move into intermediate level, and to learn more steps in the dances above. There will be some basic technique with short routines, but the focus is still on fun, as it's a beginner's class.
*Intermediates are welcome to join in this class also.
Dances included: as per Level 1 plus Rumba and including Evening 3 Step and Gypsy Tap New Vogue dances from time to time.
Intermediate and Advanced Classes
These classes are for our more advanced students at QaF. We will work on short routines in Ballroom & Latin, including some New Vogue dances, during most classes.
Both classes will have a stronger focus on technique, arms styling etc., for more of that ‘WOW factor’.
Please enquire if you are unsure about joining these classes. Beginners will not be able to keep up, but are encouraged to join the Intermediate class if they no longer find the Lev 2 beginner classes challenging.
Dances included:
Latin - Cha Cha Cha, Salsa, Jive, Samba & Rumba.
Ballroom - Rhythm/ Social Foxtrot, Social Tango, Quickstep, Viennese & Slow Waltz.
New Vogue - Evening 3 Step, Merrilyn, Charmaine, Gypsy Tap, Parma Waltz, Twilight Waltz, Swing Waltz, Tango Terrific, Tangoette, La Bomba, Barclay Blues, and more!
When to move classes?
You can decide when the right timing for your move will be, there are no rules around this, so please feel free to move up, when you feel ready. Please ask if you're at all unsure, but if you're not feeling challenged, then that's a real indication that it's time to move up a level. Your second or third classes taken in the same week are half priced, to encourage you to do more, so don't be shy and give it a go if you're feeling it.
Private Lessons
These are held at our Fitzroy studio on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday evenings and on Saturday afternoons. Also, at our Footscray space on Friday evenings only.
Please contact Anny for availability. Feel free to choose the specific dances you want to learn and the pace at which the lessons progress also.
Fees:
$40 per half hr
$70 per 1hr (shared as a couple).
Performances.
Performance opportunities are available for those interested. We offer students the chance to do ‘demos’ or performances, at our regular Social Nights - this is for those who are willing to brave the floor and who like a challenge and goal to set for themselves. Routines are taught during classes and on a private lesson basis, as suits.

"

I learned ballroom dancing at boarding school and have done country partner dancing and line dancing for many years. I decided I wanted to learn some latin dances and asked Anny if I could have private lessons. I consider myself lucky she had a vacancy coming up and was able to fit me in. I have been very impressed with the way Anny teaches. Over the years I have experienced dance teachers both here and in the USA and usually they only teach the steps with little or no emphasis on technique. Anny puts a lot of emphasis on technique and that is very important. If you know the correct technique you enjoy your dancing more and it looks so much better! I highly recommend Queer As Foxtrot as a place to learn dancing and to meet some new friends!
